![]() ![]() ![]() But, it shows Max going along with all the rules her parents have put in place because of the age difference, including a weekly Sunday Brunch. Yes, he’s the musician to her high school student. ![]() This is not a book where from the first page I wanted to say, “Lola, what are you thinking?” Yes, Max is older, 22. What I love is how Perkins, who tells this from Lola’s perspective, has the reader come to the realization along with Lola that Max is not all that and a bag of chips. Look a little deeper, though, and something seems off. Lola’s boyfriend at the start of the book is Max, and Max is an appealing boyfriend on paper. And, just to be clear, as the title promises, the romance is between Lola and her next door neighbor, Cricket. It’s a companion to Anna and the French Kiss more about that later. The Good: Lola and the Boy Next Door is another terrific teen romance from Stephanie Perkins. ![]() ![]() ![]() But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. Simple writing – almost read like a parent telling a bedtime story to a child. If I had not been on vacation, I may not have had patience for this book. I’ve read Yolen’s “Briar Rose” and Murphy’s “ Hansel and Gretel” and really enjoyed those, so I thought I’d give Turgeon a try. I had seen so many poor and mediocre reviews for this book, but the cover and the fairy twist kept calling to me. The book releases March 4th, be sure to grab your copy! I felt like I could have been Ruby and I get a real joy in being able to relate to the heroine of romance stories.ĭefinite 5 star read, the book was full of love, romance, and some steamy sex. They were regular people who met in a common place that people meet. What I loved the most about this book was aside from Remi being a billionaire, the story felt like it could be real and not a fantasy. It was a pleasure watching them fall for each other. While they never actually tell a direct lie about this, they are definitely not open about it, and a couple of grown-ups keep the secret for them as well. In one case, a couple of girls slip out of their house at night when they're supposed to be in bed. In general, the children of Swallows and Amazons are about as moral heroes as you could ask for, honorable and responsible, with only a couple of exceptions. The six children proceed to have grand adventures as they plot the downfall of 'retired pirate Captain Flint', the Blackett's inattentive uncle. While on their grand adventure, they meet the Blackett girls, Nancy and Ruth, who sail the pirate ship the Amazon.
